Joanne Jackson (vocalist) - 2003 Jazz Hall Of Fame inductee Minimize

Joanne Jackson

Mention Ernie’s Urban Lounge, a popular jazz club of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, and Joanne Jackson’s name usually pops up.

A native of Newton, IA, vocalist Joanne weaved her magnificent voice around jazz, blues and standards at Ernie’s before heading off on other musical adventures. She worked worldwide in touring musical theater, as a recoding artist, as a film and television actress and as a busy jazz and blues vocalist.

Returning to Newton several years ago to care for her mother, Joanne also made her return to the local music scene, working with other Iowa natives in the Joanne Jackson Quartet.

Besides being inducted in the CJC Hall Of Fame, a few of Joanne’s other kudos include NAACP and Drama Log awards.
